Imagine being able to pick up the phone and invite Michael Buble, Sarah McLachlan, Pamela Anderson, Wayne Gretzky and Josh Groban to your hometown for a weekend of music and fundraising. Well, that’s exactly what super producer David Foster has been doing for 25 years. This homegrown “Hit Man”; created the David Foster Miracle Foundation to raise money for the families of children requiring organ transplants and his celeb friends have always stepped up. Everyone from Donna Summer to Muhammad Ali has donated their time and star power to the cause and this year $4.6 million was raised for those in need.
Our Miracle Weekend kicked off with a surprise street dedication in Foster’s honour. The newly named David Foster Way was the brainchild of one of Foster’s most successful proteges and after his surprise serenade with The Tenors, Buble told us he owes much of career success to Foster’s killer instincts. Buble – sporting a rockstar look – also dished on married life with Argentinian beauty Luisana Lopilato.
Our one-on-one with Foster also proved very enlightening – he revealed that late and great Disco Diva Donna Summer was scheduled to perform at this years’ gala, but pulled out three months earlier when her health began to deteriorate. Foster and Summer had been close friends and collaborators for many years.
Then the serious glamour kicked in with two purple carpets featuring McLachlan, Anderson, Groban, Alan Thicke, “The Great One’ and many
more. Everyone we spoke to was thrilled to be part of the 25th anniversary celebration and incredibly impressed by the beauty and warmth of Victoria and its hosts.
Speaking of which… I’d like to send a special shout-out to our host Holly Lenk. This high-energy Tourism Victoria liason secured locations, made sure we were watered and fed and even pitched in during production.
Let’s just hope she’s mastered the Flexfill by the time ET Canada returns to Victoria for year 26 of the David Foster Miracle Weekend.
Watch all the action on Monday night’s ET Canada!
