Looks like Jason Lee is no longer the Scientologist he used to be.
The 46-year-old actor revealed that he and his wife no longer practice Scientology, in an interview with The Dentonite: “We don’t practice Scientology.”
Lee’s interview with the local outlet was, in part, to address rumours that he and wife Ceren Alkac had relocated to Denton, Texas to open a Scientology centre: “If Ceren and I had an idea for a business, it certainly wouldn’t happen at the cost of someone else’s… We aren’t particularly interested in opening religious centres in general, we have no plans to open a Scientology centre.”
The “My Name Is Earl” star and Alkac married in 2008, but there were rumours of a split due to Lee’s devotion to the controversial religion. The pair have since made amends.
In 2015, the actor’s ex-wife Carmen Llywelyn wrote a scathing letter for Gawker, blaming Scientology for ruining her marriage to Lee: “It became a source of contention and I realised that unless I accepted Scientology the way he did and the way he wanted me to, we would most likely cease to know each another.”
Lee and his second wife Alkac now live in Denton with their children.
