‘Blair Witch’ Writer Reacts To Poor Box Office: ‘At Least We Got Overwhelmingly Negative Reviews’

“Blair Witch”, the sequel to the very popular 1999 movie “The Blair Witch Project”, was a total flop — but at least the film’s writer and director have a sense of humour!

The 2016 film only raked in an estimated $9.7 million on its opening weekend, but hey, according to writer Simon Barrett:

Adam Wingard, the movie’s director replied to Barrett by taking a jab at the significantly more successful “Sully”:

“Sully” starring Tom Hanks snagged the number one spot at the box office last weekend with $35 million, and kept top spot with approximately $22 million this weekend.

The “Blair Witch” writer did clarify his previous tweet, assuring that he is proud of his work:

Their latest found footage horror film received interesting feedback from audiences and critics. Though it may only have a 5.1 rating on Rotten Tomatoes, as of this writing, plus an average grade of D+ from moviegoers — IGN awarded the movie 9/10 and Bloody Disgusting called it a “game changer”.

So will the new “Blair Witch” fall into a black abyss with a plethora of poorly-received horror movies, or could it become a cult classic?
