Jeffrey Tambor had an important message to share and he had the perfect platform with which to do that.
After being awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, the 72-year-old actor sent Hollywood an important message: “Listen to me, I’m not gonna say this beautifully, but to you people out there you producers and network owners and you agents and you creative sparks, please give transgender talent a chance. Give them auditions. Give them their story.”
And he made it clear that equal opportunity is more important than any role in his storied career: “I would not be unhappy were I the last cisgender male to play a female gender on television. We have work to do.”
Speaking to press after the award ceremony, Tambor said of Caitlyn Jenner’s appearance on “Transparent”: “I love Caitlyn and she is courageous. And she has killed on our show.”
