In a moment sure to tear up some viewers, Angela Lansbury (possibly better known to some as Mrs. Potts) performed a live version of “Beauty and the Beast” at the film’s 25th anniversary screening.
The popular Disney movie returned to Lincoln Center for a special screening on Sunday, 25 years after it was first presented as an unfinished project at the New York Film Festival.
A number of the film’s original cast was in attendance for the show. After the credits rolled, legendary composer Alan Menken performed a melody of his famous Disney tuns — including those from: “Aladdin”, “The Little Mermaid”, “Hercules” and of course “Beauty and the Beast”.
It was only then that Lansbury made her way on stage for a live performance of “Beauty and the Beast”. The 90-year-old stole hearts all over again as she sang, even add the famous line: “Run along and get in the cupboard, Chip.”
In a beautiful twist of fate, Lansbury initially had reservations about singing the song for the Disney film, but once she did everyone in the studio was said to have been reduced to tears.
