Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel brought their long-standing “feud” to primetime television during Sunday night’s 68th Emmy Awards.
After losing the title of Outstanding Variety Talk Series to “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver”, Kimmel, who was hosting the awards show from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, came face-to-face with his nemesis Damon.
Chewing an apple, an unconcerned-looking Damon took the stage to taunt Kimmel about his recent loss. “This is so humiliating,” he quipped. “I’m sorry. I mean, you lost and now you’ve got to stand out here for the rest of the night in front of everybody.”
“Can we cheer Jimmy up?” the “Jason Bourne” actor asked the crowd. “He’s a big loser. Big round of applause. You’re a pretty big loser. And I for one am sorry about that and I think everybody else here feels really sorry for you.”
While technically constructed, the feud between Damon and Kimmel has been ongoing for the past 11 years, stemming all the way back to the third season of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” when the host jokingly apologized to Damon for bumping him from the show.
