Dame Maggie Smith has responded to her big win during Sunday night’s Emmy Awards after the show’s host Jimmy Kimmel picked up her award.
During his opening monologue for the show, Kimmel made a playful jab at the noticeably absent “Downton Abbey” actress, who has been nominated for an Emmy nine times, won three times and never been present to pick up her award.
When Smith was later awarded the title for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama – increasing her award count to four – Kimmel grabbed her Emmy and said, “No, no, no! We’re not mailing this to her!” The host then turned to the camera and left her the following message: “Maggie, if you want this, it will be in the lost and found.”
Smith has since responded, leaving a message for the official Masterpiece Twitter page to share. In the statement, Smith said, “I was very astonished and pleased to win the award. I feel the Emmys have been overly generous to me.” She went on, “If Mr. Kimmel could please direct me to the lost and found office I will try and be on the next flight. Love Old Maggie.”
