While Prince William is insistent that his work as an air ambulance pilot is rewarding, the Duke of Cambridge reveals that the job also brings some more sombre moments.
In light of the U.K.’s National Air Ambulance week, the BBC released an online documentary with Prince William, where the royal spoke about his fairly new role as an East Anglian Air Ambulance pilot, which sees him work with a co-pilot to transport patients to hospitals from emergency situations.
Speaking of the positives of his work, he says, “It’s rewarding when I come here to do this job, and I look forward to coming here every day.” The father of two continues, “It’s exciting and it’s challenging for its variety if anything, and the fact that I love working in a team – that’s something that my other job [in the British royal family] doesn’t necessarily do.”
Prince William went on to say that although he loves working with his 4-person helicopter crew, the job can be emotionally straining. He says, “There’s some very sad, dark moments and we talk about it a lot. That’s the best way of dealing with some of the situations.”
