It’s safe to say that Lauren Diaz experienced the most amazing night of her life after auditioning for “The Voice”, with the 24-year-old vocal coach performing Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” while Keys herself listened, the grin on Keys’ face growing wider with each note from the self-professed Alicia Keys mega-fan.
It didn’t take the new “Voice” coach long before hitting her button and spinning around her chair, encouraging Diaz to “Sing, sing!” Keys’ fellow coach Miley Cyrus was next to push her button, followed by Blake Shelton.
Following the blind audition, Diaz summed it up pretty well when she exclaimed, “Holy crap!” — followed by Keys joining her onstage of offer a hug, and then singing “If I Ain’t Got You” herself, changing the lyrics to suit the moment. “I just know that you and me are meant to be together,” she told Diaz, for whom it was a no-brainer to choose her longtime musical hero as her coach.
You’d think that having your musical idol turn her chair around during your audition and then offer to be your mentor would be just about the most mind-blowing thing anyone could experience. That magical moment, however, managed to be topped when Diaz went backstage with Keys only to be met by her boyfriend, who dropped to one knee and popped the question. Watch:
