“The Simpsons” kicks off its 28th season on Sunday, and TV’s longest-running scripted series sends a huge shout-out to another not-for-kids animated series in the episode-opening couch gag of the season premiere.
In the season opener, “Adventure Time” gets the couch gag treatment, with Homer, Bart and the rest of the denizens of Springfield appearing as characters in the bizarro post-apocalyptic Adult Swim series.
In addition to this opening homage, the season’s first episode promises to be a great one, featuring Springfield burning to the ground, Mr. Burns putting on a variety show and Amy Schumer lending her voice to the role of Burns’ mother in a flashback.
That won’t be Schumer’s only appearance on Fox’s animated series on Sunday; her voice will also be featured in “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers” for an all-Schumer night of cartoon fun.
You can catch the season premiere of “The Simpsons” on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Global; you can also watch full episodes online.
