Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander gets candid about her relationship with Michael Fassbender in the new issue of PORTER, on newsstands September 30.
“We’ve never hidden the fact that we’re a couple,” the 28-year-old actress says of Fassbender, whom she starred opposite in the romantic drama “The Light Between Oceans”, in theatres now.
“He’s extremely hardworking,” she says of her Irish beau. “He was like, ‘Give me something new! I just need a new idea. I need to do it differently.’ I just thought that was cool. Because that was what I was trying to do, too. To push each other and come up with new ideas each time,” she says of their on set relationship.
While the Swedish-born actress and former ballerina has been making a name for herself in North America with her award-winning role in “The Danish Girl” and in “Ex Machina”, Vikander is still shaken by June’s Brexit decision.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” she says of the referendum results. “I am European. I grew up in a small country. Without it, I would not be where I am right now in my career – I wouldn’t have been able to live with my three girlfriends in London.”
“As a foreigner, I probably wouldn’t have been cast in ‘Anna Karenina’ if they’d had to pay for a working visa,” she continues. “I hope here in America that it opens people’s eyes that you can’t just let things happen. You need to get involved.”
