Donald Trump is engaging in another war of words with former Miss Universe Alicia Machado.
Following Monday’s first U.S. Presidential debate, wherein Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton brought up Trump’s body shaming comments against Machado, the Republican nominee phoned into “Fox And Friends” to address the situation – and throw in a few more jabs.
“When [Clinton] brought up the person, I know that person, that person was a Miss Universe person, and she was the worst we ever had,” Trump says. “The worst. The absolute worst. She was impossible.”
The drama dates back to 1996, when a 19-year-old Machado was crowned Miss Universe and was subsequently plagued with weight gain rumours. Trump, then a co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, forced her to lose weight by hiring a personal trainer for her in 1997 and secretly allowing reporters to watch her work out.
“She was the winner, and she gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a real problem,” Trump recalls.
In a video tweeted by the Clinton campaign, Machado recalls being labeled “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping” by Trump, saying, “He was overwhelming. I was so scared of him.”
Now an American citizen, Machado has pledged her support for Clinton, writing in an Instagram vote, “Miss Housekeeping and miss (sic) Piggy can vote.”
