The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ Single Has Biggest Opening Weekend In Streaming History

The Weeknd has achieved yet another musical win, making history with the “Most Release Weekend Streams Ever” for his new single “Starboy” featuring electronic music duo Daft Punk.

“Starboy”, the first single off the singer’s upcoming third album of the same name, which is set for release with XO/Republic Records on November 25, debuted to listeners on September 22, and has since amassed over 17 million streams globally with 6.5 million streams in the United States alone.

In addition, the multi-platinum R&B artist also achieved the accolade for the “One Week Most Added Record Of All Time In North America”, with his track becoming the most added song in the Top 40, Rhythm, Urban and Hot AC categories.

To add to the thrill, The Weeknd also dropped the accompanying video for “Starboy” on VEVO today, directed by Grant Singer, who has collaborated with the two-time Grammy Award winning artist on his other visual successes, including “The Hills”, “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Tell Your Friends”.

The Weeknd is set to perform “Starboy” live for the first time on the season premiere of Global‘s “Saturday Night Live”.
