Being a mother of four while running an international fashion empire requires a lot of juggling, and Victoria Beckham admits she sometimes feels “guilty” when work takes away from spending time with family.
In an interview with The Sunday Times magazine, the former Spice Girl opens up about the challenges of having four children of varying ages. “The most important thing is to make sure that each child gets the individual attention that they need,” says Beckham. “I do feel that I’m being pulled in four different directions with the children… You feel guilty if you’re missing something with the children.”
When it comes to her career, Beckham admits she can be fiercely competitive, but only because she’s learned some tough lessons along the way. “I think I learnt a lot from the Spice Girls, most importantly how you can have everything one minute and then lose it the next,” she explains. “I’ve been given a second chance, so I’m not going to lose it again.”
In fact, she admits: “I am a control freak, a workaholic, and I like to do everything myself. But the truth is, I am in position to have help. I am very lucky that I am the boss, so I can say, ‘I’m coming in late because of sports day.'”
Meanwhile, Beckham also reveals that even after all these years as a public figure, she still feels uncomfortable in the spotlight. “I don’t know if it’s the years of being photographed and the criticism, but I just feel exposed and vulnerable and uncomfortable, and I can’t be myself,” she says of appearing on the red carpet.
“I can’t wait till I’m off it [the red carpet] and we can all just have a drink, throw our heads back, and who cares if your lip gloss has worn off?” she says. “You can relax.”
