Brody Jenner Apologizes For ‘Careless And Misguided’ Social Media Remark About Black Lives Matter: ‘I Spoke Out Of Turn’

It takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong, and Brody Jenner has proven to be that big man by issuing an apology for a controversial comment he made about the Black Lives Matter movement.

The trouble began when the former “The Hills” star reposted a friend’s Instagram post that criticized the behaviour of Keith Lamont Scott and Terence Crutcher, African-American men shot and killed by police officers.

“This has nothing to do with race. White, black, brown, any colour…if you have an officer of the law telling you to exit your vehicle (or do anything for that matter)…you comply,” reads the post (which has since been deleted), to which Jenner enthusiastically replied “AMEN.”

The backlash was fast and brutal, with Jenner being taken to task for his apparent ignorance of America’s vast racial divide and blatant police profiling that has spawned the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

However, Jenner offered a mea culpa, admitting he “spoke out of turn on a subject I wasn’t particularly educated on,” in a Instagram apology.

“After taking some time to reflect and learn a lot over the last few days, I want to address my careless and misguided posts last weekend,” he writes. “Having done more research into the Black Lives Matter movement, including reading a very informative editorial by @lmanisviney, I realize that my comments weren’t thoughtful or substantiated.”

He adds: “I spoke out of turn on a subject I wasn’t particularly educated on. It was never my intention to exacerbate an already contentious situation in our country. I am a firm supporter of the African American community and I am grateful that my mistake allowed me the opportunity to increase my own awareness of Black Lives Matter, and hope that going forward we can continue this conversation in a positive and peaceful way.”
