Lyndel Rhodes is the mother of country songwriter/producer Buddy Cannon, and the spry 92-year-old is also a songwriter herself, with Willie Nelson recording her “Little House on the Hill” for his latest album.
Cannon shared a video of Rhodes listening to Nelson’s version of her song for the first time, and her amazing response has caused the video to go viral, racking up more than 1.3 million views on Facebook. “So this is what it looks and sounds like when you play your 92 year old mom Willie Nelson’s cut of a song she wrote,” writes Cannon of the heartwarming video.
In a Facebook message, Cannon explains how his mom’s song came to be recorded by the country music icon.
“She showed the song to me a couple years back and I could not stop thinking that Willie would like the song if he heard it,” he writes. “Well, a few weeks ago I made a guitar vocal of her song and emailed it to Willie over in Maui. A few hours later I got a reply from Willie saying, ‘I love it. Let’s cut it.’ Well we did cut it and my 92-year-old mom now has herself a song on Willie’s upcoming album. Willie nailed it too. How about that folks!!”
Meanwhile, Nelson himself comments on the video, writing on his Facebook page that it was “such a sweet moment to witness and share. Thank you Buddy.”
