Donald Trump defined his crude remarks about women, those discovered in a leaked 2005 recording, as “locker room banter” – but he once fired a “The Celebrity Apprentice” contestant for the same thing.
“The Daily Show” dug through old footage of the reality series and found what some may describe as a hypocritical statement from The Donald. During a 2010 boardroom meeting, the former television host mediated an argument between former WWE star Maria Kanellis and Australian chef Curtis Stone.
Kanellis was not pleased with how Stone carried himself: “The reason why I said you were so arrogant is because you came into our dressing room, and you took a crap, and left the stench in the room.”
Trump shut the pro wrestler down, saying his boardroom was not a locker room: “It’s a little gross, right? Isn’t it sort of gross to bringing that up? It’s like disgusting. This is my boardroom. It’s not a locker room. Maria, you’re fired.”
Maybe it was a turn off for the now Presidential candidate, because according to Kanellis he would regularly flirt with her: “He would say I looked nice that day. He would make comments in the board room.”
Kanellis further dished to NY Daily News about the encounter: “I distinctly remember that after I said what I said, I was told I shouldn’t talk like that as a lady, and that, to me, was inequality at its best. I can’t speak my mind as a female, but he can speak his mind as a male. There’s a problem with that.”
The GOP candidate has since apologized for his misogynistic 2005 comments, but defended them as: “Locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago.”
