Hillary Clinton made a campaign stop in Los Angeles on Thursday, where she was the guest of honour at a star-studded fundraiser hosted by Casey and Laura Wasserman, featuring a performance from Elton John.
“I’m so thrilled to be here tonight to support my good friend Hillary Clinton, the next President of the United States!” said Sir Elton at the fundraiser, where (as reported by Billboard) tickets ranged in price from $33,000 to $100,000 and boasted a guest list that included Barbra Streisand.
“I’m a British citizen, but I dearly, dearly love this country,” he added. “I love all that you stand for: equality, decency, kindness, and respect. And I’m so proud to support Hillary tonight because she has dedicated her life to these principles.”
He added: “I’ve dedicated the past quarter-century of my life to the fight against AIDS — to advocating for the human rights of all people… no matter who they are, who they love, or where they live. And Hillary has been doing this important work — fighting for equality, for the rights of all people — long before I was. She’s amassed an astonishing record of achievement — unmatched by any American politician today.”
In concluding his remarks, he took a shot at Republican nominee Donald Trump. “America is already great — and Hillary is a part of the reason why,” he said. “So tonight, I’m proud to say: I’m with her!”
