While supermarket tabloids continue to claim the marriage of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi is in trouble, reports that the couple are hovering on the brink of divorce are simply not true, and DeGeneres shuts down the rumours once and for all in a new cover-story interview with People.
“I’m grateful for everything,” says the daytime talk show queen. “I’m grateful for my health, and I’m so grateful for the love in my life. Because not everybody finds that. Not everybody finds that best friend.”
Married in 2008, DeGeneres says that she and de Rossi are careful to ensure they never take each other for granted. “Portia and I constantly say to each other, ‘We are so lucky.’ Sometimes it’s lying in bed at night before I go to sleep, and I just say thank you to whatever, whoever is out there,” she says. “I’ve gotten to a place where I really am just settled. Really. I know that I’m not going anywhere. She’s not going anywhere. I’m not saying the relationship took awhile; I’m saying in my life, it took awhile to find this.”
Asked what the best part of being married is, DeGeneres can’t single out any one aspect: “There’s no best part. It’s everything. I can’t imagine not being married. I have my best friend, the person I want to spend time with more than anybody else in the world.”
