Victoria’s Secret has been criticized numerous times in the past for using Photoshop to alter images of models to erase even the tiniest imperfections, with some taking the undergarment manufacturer to task for promoting an unattainable idea of beauty.
Could a recently released photo herald a new Photoshop-free philosophy from VS? That’s the theory Cosmopolitan is floating after the release of this photo of model Jasmine Tookes posing while wearing Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Bright Night Fantasy Bra.
Looking closely at the photo, stretch marks can clearly be seen on Tookes’ hip, and while Victoria’s Secret has yet to issue an official statement about the pic, Cosmo sees this as a potential sign of progress.
When American Eagle offshoot Aerie “vowed not to Photoshop their girls in 2014, it actually caused a 20 per cent boost in sales,” notes the mag. “After seeing what body positivity does for revenue, it’s possible that Victoria’s Secret is looking for the same results.”
Tookes, by the way, is the first woman of colour to model the VS Fantasy Bra in nine years, and we’ll see her in action in December at the annual “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show”, which for the first time ever will be held in Paris.
“The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” airs Monday, December 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Global.
