Michael Douglas is claiming his former co-star Val Kilmer is battling tongue cancer – the same form of cancer Douglas announced he was fighting back in 2010.
“Val was a wonderful guy who is dealing with exactly what I had and things don’t look too good for him,” the actor said while sitting down for a Q&A in London on Sunday.
According to The Sun, Douglas touched upon the subject while discussing “The Ghost in the Darkness”, the 1996 film in which he co-starred alongside Kilmer.
“My prayers are with him. That’s why you haven’t heard too much from Val lately,” he added.
Douglas has since clarified his comments in a statement released by his rep, Jeremy Plager: “He did say that, but he did qualify that he hasn’t heard from Val in a long time so hopefully he’s improved. I don’t think Michael’s heard from him in over a year.”
Kilmer denied reports of a cancer diagnosis last year after being treated in January 2015 for a bleeding throat. “I am perfectly well folks. Thank you for all your love and support. I am having a grand time. And I should mention I do not have cancer or a tumour,” he wrote on Facebook in June of that year.
Four months later, Kilmer was spotted with a breathing machine and tracheostomy tube in his neck.
