SPOILER ALERT: If you have yet to view this week’s episode of “The Bachelorette Canada”, stop reading NOW, because some HUGE spoilers are coming.
Crunch time is here for Jasmine Lorimer, who has winnowed her search for love everlasting down to three men — Kevin W., Mikhel and Mike — and visited the hometowns of each in order to meet their respective families.
First up was Mikhel, who made quite an impression by roaring up on a motorcycle to pick her up in his hometown of Newmarket, Ont., deciding to lay his cards on the table. “I’ve fallen in love with Jasmine,” he explains, and works up the courage to tell her.
As it turned out, this was the right move; rather than scare her away, his declaration actually endeared him to her even further.
“Mikhel says everything to me that I’ve always wanted to hear from the person that I’m with,” gushes Jas. “Mikhel tells me that he has fallen in love with me, and it it makes me feel so good… I am falling in love with Mikhel — and this is only the beginning.”
Things go well when she meets his family, although Mikhel’s father urges his smitten son to maintain some perspective. “You could be #1 or #3,” he cautions.
Next, Jas heads to Winnipeg to meet Mike’s family, and she does some serious bonding with Mike’s dad when he learns she’s from Kenora — which is where he spent numerous summers as a child.
Ironically, things don’t go nearly as well between Jas and Mike, who tells the camera that she “makes me feel alive,” yet can’t quite express himself to her face to face. In fact, in the wake of Mikhel’s bold declaration of love, all Mike can muster is, “I like you a lot. You’re someone I could definitely see myself falling in love with.”
After that letdown, it was off to Waterloo, Ont., to meet Kevin W.’s parents — and Jasmine immediately encounters resistance from his mom, who’s more than a little skeptical about this whole finding-love-on-a-reality-show thing.
In fact, not only does mom point out all the obvious stuff — they barely know each other, etc. — but she also calls Jas a “chatterbox,” questioning whether she’d be able to listen to her son after he’s had a difficult day saving lives.
The whole encounter leaves Jasmine somewhat shaken. “I don’t know if I could even be a part of this family,” she says.
Then it’s back to Vancouver for the big rose ceremony that will reduce three to two — but first, Mike has worked up the courage to throw caution to the wind and tell Jas how he really feels: “I’m falling in love with you,” he declares, although it may be too late.
Finally, it’s time for the rose ceremony, with the first rose going to Mikhel, followed by the second going to Kevin — which led to Jasmine having a tearful farewell with Mike, who is sent home but admits he’s learned a valuable lesson about being too cautious.
“I learned that love doesn’t wait around for anybody. The lesson for me is that maybe I have to put myself out there a little bit earlier. But you live and you learn,” he admits. “I think there is someone out there for me. When I find that woman I’m really not going to waste time.”
