Jennifer Aniston is opening up about life with hubby Justin Theroux and the reasons behind her highly-read op-ed piece on celebrity gossip that garnered attention back in August in the new issue of Marie Claire.
The 47-year-old gets candid about her open letter on Huffington Post in which she criticized the “business of lies” drummed up by tabloids constantly publishing “is-she-or-isn’t-she?” pregnancy reports and the general scrutinization of women’s bodies.
“My marital status has been shamed; my divorce status was shamed; my lack of a mate had been shamed; my nipples have been shamed,” Aniston tells the magazine. “It’s like, ‘Why are we only looking at women through this particular lens of picking us apart? Why are we listening to it?’ I just thought: I have worked too hard in this life and this career to be whittled down to a sad, childless human.”
Aniston’s personal life has been under the microscope for years, and has again flared up in the wake of the widely-publicized split between ex-husband Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Aniston was quick to distance herself from the divorce celebration memes, as did husband Theroux, who the actress opens up about to Marie Claire.
“Why is he the right person for me? All I know is that I feel completely seen, and adored, in no matter what state. There’s no part of me that I don’t feel comfortable showing, exposing. And it brings forth the best part of myself, because I care about him so much,” she reveals. “And he’s such a good person. It hurts me to think of anything hurting him.”
The December issue of Marie Claire hits newsstands on November 15.
