“The Simpsons” have a knack for correctly predicting the future and they did just that following Donald Trump’s successful presidential bid.
In a 2000 episode of the hit animated Global TV show titled “Bart to the Future”, Bart Simpson sees a vision of his sister Lisa as America’s first “straight female” president.
Bart visits her in the Oval Office, where she is conducting an interview about the country’s economic crisis: “As you know, we’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump… The country is broke! How could that be?” says Lisa.
Show writer Dan Greaney addresses the bold prediction earlier this year in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “It was a warning to America… and that just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom,” says Greaney. “It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane.”
“‘The Simpsons’ has always kind of embraced the over-the-top side of American culture. [Trump] is just the fulfillment of that,” he adds.
