Billy Bob Thornton is opening up about his past marriage to Angelina Jolie.
“I never felt good enough for her,” the actor says candidly in a new interview with GQ.
Thornton and Jolie married in 2000 after meeting on the set of the comedy “Pushing Tin” in 1999. Known for their eccentric displays of affection, including reportedly wearing vials of each other’s blood around their necks, the couple separated in 2002 and officially divorced a year later.
With her dedicated humanitarian work and position in Hollywood, Jolie, who is 20 years his junior, was constantly receiving invites to formal dinners and events when Thornton wanted to stay in and relax.
“I’m real uncomfortable around rich and important people,” he tells GQ, adding that Jolie didn’t ask him to change his ways. “I like how I am,” he says, adding that the two remain friends and talk every few months.
Married six times, Thornton makes little effort to cover the two tattoos he has of Jolie’s name – one remains uncovered on his leg, and the other is on his arm, obscured by an angel.
“It’s just resting there,” he says of his arm tattoo. “You can still see the name.”
