Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is trading in his usual action fare for some family fun in the new animated feature, “Moana.”
The new Disney flick stars Johnson as a mighty demigod named Maui, who accompanies the titular heroine on a journey to save her family. The film is notable for introducing the first Polynesian Disney princess, which Johnson calls “a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”
“Stuff like this doesn’t [just] come around. I’m lucky it came around once,” he tells ET Canada’s Sangita Patel of being part of such a milestone. “It’s an opportunity to showcase our culture to the world in a positive way.”
The role also carries extra weight for the actor, whose mother is of Samoan descent and whose young daughters bear those roots. “I have two girls — one’s 15, one’s 11 months — and they both look like Moana,” he gushes.
