Politics may make strange bedfellows, but it can also create unexpected animosity between people who, at first blush, would seem to be on the same side of the political spectrum.
That appears to be the case with Susan Sarandon and Debra Messing, who are still getting into it on Twitter and extending their pre-election feuding.
You may recall that Sarandon is a diehard Bernie Sanders supporter who made headlines when she appeared to be throwing her support behind Donald Trump during a TV interview, saying of Clinton: “I believe in a way she is more dangerous [than Trump].”
“Well, you know, some people feel Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately,” Sarandon also said. “If he gets in, then things will really explode.”
This led her to tussle with Messing on Twitter, and now the “Will & Grace” star is pouring more fuel on the embers of a feud we thought had simmered down.
“She encouraged ppl to vote for Trump over HRC on a news interview,” wrote Messing in a tweet issued on Wednesday. “Said she was more ‘dangerous.’ She needs to be held accountable.”
That same day, Sarandon tweeted: “True, but reach out in dialogue to those who voted 4 [Trump]. We can’t afford a blanket judgment of them. We need allies in that camp.”
This really set off Messing, who issued a NSFW tweet blasting the “Thelma & Louise” star. “NOW she wants to give racist, islamophobic, homophobic, sexist, mysogynists a chance! ‘Pure’ 4 Bernie. F*** everyone else.”
In a followup, Sarandon replied to Messing, this time referencing the Dakota Access Pipeline controversy:
