Rosie O’Donnell is being criticized for sharing a video suggesting that Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, is autistic.
“Barron Trump Autistic? if so – what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic,” she tweeted alongside a compilation video of the 10-year-old exhibiting many of the disease’s symptoms throughout the campaign.
The tweet has since garnered sharp criticism from the Twitter community, with many accusing the former talk show host of a “cruel” attack on the U.S. President-elect’s son.
“As a parent of a child with autism – I am [extremely insulted]. This wasn’t meant to help raise awareness. Just plain cruel,” one offended user tweeted.
“Being a mom of a 19-year-old son with Asperger’s, this really made me ill, @Rosie. @realDonaldTrump was right about you.#NastyWoman,” another outraged parent shared.
O’Donnell, who has maintained an ongoing feud with the controversial Republican and is the mother of a daughter who suffers from issues with mental health, later clarified her comment in a reply to an angry fan, writing, “moms of special needs kids – WE show up for each other – care n concern were raised – not bullshit #AUTISM.”
