Aretha Franklin delighted football fans on Thanksgiving Day with a lengthy performance of the American National Anthem.
While taking the microphone at the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions holiday game at Michigan’s Ford Field, the 74-year-old soul icon, who wore a floor-length mink coat and Detroit Lions toque, sang a five-minute version of the National Anthem amid a cheering crowd.
While past performers at the Super Bowl have reportedly sung the National Anthem in approximately two minutes, Franklin took her sweet time hitting every note of “The Star-Spangled Banner”. And as expected, many fans later took to Twitter to express their joy.
Meanwhile, other viewers chose to poke fun at the length of Franklin’s performance, including Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Jameson Taillon.
