HGTV’s popular show “Fixer Upper” premiered this week and BuzzFeed has uncovered something many fans of the series will be interested to know.
The BuzzFeed article goes in-depth and uncovers that hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines’ families are devout Christians and attend the Antioch Community Church, where the church’s pastor, Jimmy Seibert, is against same-sex marriage and believes that homosexuality is a choice and a “sin.”
Seibert, who has referred to the couple as “dear friends,” has been known for preaching that “the statistics say that 90 per cent of people who are in a full-blown homosexual lifestyle were abused in some way. Physically, sexually, mentally.”
In addition to that, the pastor has even said: “You can help LGBTQ people direct their passions rightly to how God created them.” And in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage, he said it was a “biblical admonition.”
HGTV gave The Huffington Post a statement on Thursday regarding the controversy: “We don’t discriminate against members of the LGBT community in any of our shows. HGTV is proud to have a crystal clear, consistent record of including people from all walks of life in its series.”
The Gaineses have yet to comment on the matter.
