Mandy Moore is opening up about her upbringing, revealing it was far from what one might term traditional.
In an interview with Byrdie, the “This Is Us” star reveals that her mother is gay — and so are her two brothers.
“I’ve never really talked about this,” she says, “but my parents are divorced. My mother left my father for a woman. And both of my two brothers are gay.”
While that would understandably be tumultuous in any family, Moore admits that her family life was nonetheless filled with love.
“My parents loved each other; they did an incredible job raising all of us,” she says, but admits that her decision to get married to rocker Ryan Adams at 24 may have been her subconscious way of creating her “own kind of normalcy. Then I learned that that wasn’t going to be the fruitful experience I wanted it to be.” (The couple subsequently divorced.)
Looking at her family today, Moore says that everyone is “exactly where they should be. Everyone’s so much happier, richer, and more fulfilled, being their authentic selves.”
