A war of words has erupted following Meryl Streep’s powerful Golden Globes speech slamming Donald Trump, but it appears the U.S. President-elect wasn’t always one of her biggest detractors.
A new interview in which Trump praises Streep has re-surfaced after his attack of the actress on Monday.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter dating back to August of 2015, Trump says Streep is an “excellent” and a “fine person.”
The love for Streep came after he was asked about some of his favourite actresses: “Julia Roberts is terrific, and many others. Meryl Streep is excellent; she’s a fine person, too,” he said. “The problem is I’ll name three or four or five and then the hundred that I know will be insulted, and I don’t mean to insult them.”
Speaking with the New York Times over the phone, Trump admitted he was “not surprised” by the constant critique from “liberal movie people.”
Trump turned to Twitter Monday morning slamming Streep’s emotional speech in which she called the mogul-turned-politician a bully. “Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes,” he tweeted. “She is a Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time.”
