Sia has a request for producer-turned-rapper-turned-fashion icon Kanye West ahead of his Yeezy Season 5 fashion show.
Hours before West was expected to unveil Yeezy Season 5 as part of New York Fashion Week, the Australian singer sent him a tweet asking if he was willing to switch to faux-fur. Attached to the tweet is a graphic video of rabbits slaughtered for their coats.
This isn’t the first time that Sia, 41, has asked a celebrity to support a fur-free lifestyle. In fact, it’s not even the first time she’s asked someone in West’s family. Last June, “The Greatest” singer made the same request and attached the same video to West’s wife, Kim Kardashian.
West’s highly touted Yeezy Season 5 appeared to feature both fur coats and accessories. Arguably the most striking item from the show was a floor-sweeping fur coat, showcased by hijab-wearing model Halima Aden — the first Miss Minnesota contestant to compete wearing a hijab and burkini. Vogue Magazine says the garments were faux-fur, but these claims have not been verified.
In December, Sia called out rapper Azealia Banks for posting a video in which the rapper seemingly showed the remains of several chickens used for sacrificial killing.
The Australian singer is a longtime and committed vegan and activist for animal rights group PETA.
Season 5 of the “Life of Pablo” rapper’s fashion line was a low-key affair in contrast to last year’s massive show. Images were projected on the surface of a giant black rectangle from a live feed of models standing on a turntable backstage.
The collection featured a lot of denim, knee-high boots, and the new Yeezy Runners. Hoodies and bomber jackets were also frequently used, as well as sweatshirts stamped “Lost Hills” — a nod to West’s upcoming album with Canadian superstar Drake.
Among those in attendance at the show were Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, Zoe Kravitz, ASAP Ferg, Anna Wintour, Pusha T and Teyana Taylor.
