Their rumoured relationship between Drake and Rihanna may be rumoured to be over, but what isn’t a rumour is that Monday, Feb. 20 is RiRi’s 29th birthday.
The special day did not escape Drake, who was performing in Dublin, Ireland, on Monday when he sent an onstage shoutout to Rihanna, which a fan was lucky enough to capture on video.
“It’s somebody’s birthday today — somebody I have a lot of love for and a lot of respect for,” Drake told the crowd, resulting in a wave of excitement, screams and applause.
“So, instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ though, we just going to do this in Dublin. Instead of singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ we’re going to set it off just like this…”
At that point, his collaboration with Rihanna, “Work”, began to play.
Drake has never been shy about heaping praise on Rihanna. “She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22-years-old,” he said at the 2016 MTV VMAs when presenting her with the Video Vanguard Award. “She’s one of my best friends in the world. All my adult life, I’ve looked up to her, even though she’s younger than me. She’s a living, breathing legend in our industry.”
