Mike Epps was arrested Saturday along with another man after an alleged attack on a tourist at Harrah’s Casino in New Orleans.
The comedian is accused of striking a man who was visiting the town for the NBA All-Star Game. Police claim that Epps joined in on the attack started by Thomas Cobb.
Both Epps and Cobb were arrested on counts of battery. The man Epps is accused of attacking revealed in an interview that he was on his way to the cash-out area of the casino at 4 a.m. when it occurred. “We kind of met right there in the middle and I recognized him,” the man said. “I said ‘oh, Mike Epps!'”
“The next thing I know, he started hitting me in the face unprovoked,” he said of the incident. “I had a handful of chips, so I just basically bent down to protect myself, and then my friends ran over and got in front of me, and then security got there.”
The alleged victim also revealed that casino security allowed Epps and his entourage to leave but called the police. They did not arrive at the casino until three hours after the incident.
He describes his injuries as significant and that he was bleeding as a result of the attack. “My face is still swollen right now and it was blackened shut,” he said.
Epps and Cobb were released on $1,000 bail each, but they failed to appear for an arraignment in municipal court Tuesday.
