The Trump administration is taking heat for repealing legislation introduced by former President Barack Obama that offered federal protection for transgender children to use the school bathroom of the gender with which they identify. Thanks to recently appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions, however, this protection has been pulled away, a move that is angering LGBT activists and, in general, those who are alarmed to watch civil rights being stripped away.
Arguably the most famous trans woman in America, Caitlyn Jenner is using her fame to slam the move, and she took to Twitter to call out Trump and scold him for this “disaster” of a decision.
“I have a message for the trans kids of America: You’re winning. I know it doesn’t feel like it today or every day, but you’re winning,” Jenner said in her video, which she posted to all her social media platforms. “Very soon, we will win full freedom nation-wide and it’s going to be with bipartisan support. You can help by checking out the National Center for Transgender Equality and letting Washington hear you loud and clear.”
She then had a message to send to “the bullies,” stating: “You’re sick. And because you’re weak you pick on kids, you pick on women or anyone else you think is vulnerable.”
She also had some choice words for new AG Jeff Sessions: “Apparently even becoming the Attorney General isn’t enough to cure some people of their insecurities. As proof, the Supreme Court will soon hear a very important Title 9 case thanks to the courage of a very brave young man, Gavin Grimm. Mr. President, we’ll see you in court.”
The Olympic gold medalist concluded with “a message for President Trump, from one Republican to another. This is a disaster. And you can still fix it. You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me.”
Jenner, a staunch Republican, has some history with Trump regarding the bathroom issue after Trump, back in April, said that it was his belief that transgender people should use the bathroom the bathroom of their identified gender. Jenner visited Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan and proceeded to do just that, and documented her trip on social media. Watch:
Meanwhile, numerous other stars have come forward to blast the decision, ranging from Lena Dunham to Katy Perry to Beyonce to Jackie Evancho (whose sister is transgender), who performed at Trump’s inauguration.
