Organizers of the Coachella music festival found themselves in a conundrum when Beyonce revealed that she and husband Jay Z were expecting twins — which would see Queen Bey very pregnant by mid-April, likely in her third trimester, when the two-weekend festival takes place.
Following Beyonce’s announcement last week that she won’t be performing (but confirming she’ll be headlining next year), Coachella had a substantial hole to fill in its lineup, and is bringing in a big gun to replace her: Lady Gaga!
The singer confirmed the big news on her Instagram on Tuesday:
According to Billboard, Mother Monster will be headlining both weekends — April 15 and 22 — and will be bringing her elaborate stage show to the Empire Polo Grounds.
As Billboard reports, sources claim that officials affiliated with Goldenvoice and AEG Live (which produce the hipper-than-hip annual fest) are “finalizing plans to bring Gaga’s huge stage production to Coachella and will make the announcement in the coming days.”
Gaga’s two headlining spots will serve as a preview of her upcoming “Joanne” world tour, which kicks off at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena on Aug. 1. The only other Canadian date on the tour is in Toronto, with Gaga set to perform at Air Canada Centre on Sept. 6.
Coachella organizers confirmed that Beyonce had pulled out of the festival in a Facebook post, indicating she was “following the advice of her doctors to keep a less rigorous schedule in the coming months.”
