An additional clip from the interview that had everybody whispering “President Oprah?” indicates that the former queen of daytime talk may have considered the idea, but has no intention of actually running for president.
In a new Bloomberg clip (obtained by TMZ) that follows the earlier one in which she says she’s thinking about making a run for the Oval Office, Winfrey admits there’s no campaigning in her future.
“No, that won’t be happening,” she says when questioned about a presidential run, although she does admit: “But I did used to think you had to know so much more than I thought you had to know.”
The rumours began thanks to an interview Tuesday with David Rubenstein on Bloomberg TV, in which Winfrey reveals that, before Trump’s election, she thought she didn’t have the appropriate government experience to run the country. Now, the outspoken Hillary Clinton supporter seemed to be rethinking her decision.
“I never considered the question,” she says, after a pause, citing her lack of political experience. But now that Trump has assumed the presidency despite never having held a position in public office, Winfrey has realized she just might have what it takes.
“Because it’s clear that you don’t need government experience to be the president of the United States,” Rubenstein says to laughter and applause from the audience.
“I thought, Oh gee, I don’t have the experience. I don’t know enough,” she says. “And now I’m thinking, Oh…”
