It’s another “La La Land” mix-up!
A German prankster took the stage claiming to be Ryan Gosling to accept an award for “La La Land” at the Goldene Kamera awards in Germany, as shocked stars Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell and Jane Fonda awkwardly watched.
The somewhat portly “lookalike” bears a very, very slight resemblance to the Canadian heartthrob, but it was enough to convince showrunners and ceremony host Steven Gaetjen that this knock-off Gosling was the real deal. Gaetjen excitedly introduced the trickster as “‘one of the hottest stars in Hollywood… the one and only, Ryan Gosling,” as the faux Gosling took the stage.
It was clear almost immediately that the man on the stage was not Gosling as things begin to get awkward, according to Daily Mail.
“Good evening, I am Ryan Gosling!” the man says in a thick, German accent. “I dedicate this award to Joko and Klass, thank you very much. There is a saying in Hamburg, which is, ‘bye, bye!'”
The broadcaster’s translator provided a live translation of his speech, seemingly unaware of the hoax that was transpiring on stage as the camera captured the confused reactions of real Hollywood stars Kidman, Farrell and Fonda, who look bemused, bewildered and unimpressed with faux Gosling’s antics. As the prankster exits the stage, host Gaetjen sheepishly explains there’s been a “mistake” chalking it up to a live broadcast snafu.
It didn’t take long for the tricksters behind the prank to come forward and take responsibility.
The hoax was perpetrated by German comedy duo Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf who orchestrated the stunt. Together, the pair set up a fake company who promised they could get Gosling to attend the ceremony on the condition he would win an award. When showrunners reportedly fell for their gag, the duo found Munich cook, Luwig Lehner, and passed him off as Gosling.
In response to the mix-up and breach of security, show organizers have organized a complete review of security procedures for the event.
