“New Girl” star Jake Johnson reveals that even he doesn’t know if the hit show “New Girl” will end after season six.
After fans heard the uncertainty, Johnson took to Twitter to clear the air: “Let’s be clear. I have no idea if NG is coming back. I was doing an interview for #WinItAll & was asked my guess. We’ve been told it’s 50/50.”
Johnson stars as Nick Miller, a one-time love-interest to co-star Zooey Deschanel’s Jessica Day on the comedy series.
Fox released a statement to The Daily Beast confirming no decision has been made about the future of “New Girl”: “While no announcement has been made on the series returning for a seventh season, the network and studio are currently in discussions.”
The Daily Beast reached out to the show’s creator, Liz Meriwether, who says, “I genuinely don’t know! Fingers crossed.”
After ratings have slowly decreased since season one, Meriwether admits she thinks the fans are staying loyal to the show.
“I think a lot of people are watching the show later or on Hulu,” Meriwether told The Hollywood Reporter last May. “When you have a show that appears to younger viewers, the live ratings just aren’t indicative of who’s watching the show. And I think Fox has been pretty savvy about that and incredibly supportive of our show.”
Even with the uncertainty on whether “New Girl” will return for season seven, it’s one of the longest-running shows currently on Fox’s lineup.
