Girl power is the name of the game!
“Mulan” is among the upcoming Disney properties to get the live-action treatment and it promises to pack a punch. The remake’s director, Niki Caro, described the new flick to Screencrush as “a girly martial arts extravaganza.”
Many of the film’s details are still up in the air. “I haven’t started yet so I can’t give you any real detail,” Caro explained while promoting her latest movie “The Zookeepers Wife”. She said, however, the financial muscle of Disney creates endless opportunities, “The budget and the location and the story [are] offering such scope to me for [an] incredible, muscular piece of girly martial arts extravaganza in China. And I can’t wait.”
And Caro plans on getting some hands-on experience before taking to the directors chair. “I’ve got my little girl, she’s 9,” Caro added. “We’re going to start learning mixed martial arts in preparation.”
It is unclear at the time whether the live-action adaptation of “Mulan” will be more of a musical like “Beauty and the Beast” or something more akin to “The Jungle Book”. In a separate interview with Moviefone, Caro predicted it to be the latter. “From what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children,” she explained.
The live-action “Mulan” movie is scheduled to hit theatres on November 2, 2018.
