Actress Katey Sagal reveals she had a 15-year battle with drugs in her new memoir, Grace Notes: My Recollections, set to be released this week.
The 63-year-old star reveals she was once addicted to diet pills, cocaine and alcohol while growing up in Los Angeles.
“When I was 12, we lived on the same block as Judy Garland. Her daughter Lorna Luft and I became neighbourhood buddies,” the former “Sons of Anarchy” actress wrote. “Lorna’s mom had a lot of pills on her bedside table and slept past noon just like my mom. We hung tight. And, of course, I thought everyone’s mom took a lot of pills.”
Sagal pens essays on her struggle and success: from her drug addiction, being diagnosed with cancer at 28-years-old and the stillbirth of her first daughter, to getting her big break as the beloved Peggy Bundy on the sitcom, “Married… with Children.”
She even touches on her on-again-off again romance with KISS’ Gene Simmons, whom she first met when she was working as a singing waitress in Santa Monica.
Sagal reveals that Simmons came into the restaurant with the band, they flirted, then went home together, “I thought Gene was really weird,” she writes.
Grace Notes: My Recollections hits bookstores everywhere on Tuesday, March 21.
