Nicki Minaj continues to carve her place in the annals of music history.
Minaj, 34, recently broke Aretha Franklin’s record for most Billboard Hot 100 hits by a woman. Franklin, now 74, held the record for nearly four decades before Minaj came around and set the hip hop game on fire. Franklin gathered an astounding 73 top 100 hits over her career.
Minaj usurped the top spot after releasing three new songs this month: “No Frauds,” “Regret in Your Tears,” and “Changed It”. These tracks propelled the rapper to an unrivalled 76 bangers in the Hot 100.
The Young Money superstar anticipated her success earlier this month. On March 8, Minaj celebrated her record-tying single with Meek Mill, “‘Make Love’ with Gucci Mane debuts on Billboard‘s Hot 100 this week, causing me to tie Aretha’s record for the Most Hot 100 entries of ALL WOMEN IN THE WORLD”
Before setting her sights on Franklin’s title. “Been writing my own raps since I was 11,” she wrote on social media. “GOD knows. Next week I’ll beat Aretha for the most Hot 100 hits on Billboard by ANY woman in the world EVER in the history of music.”
On Monday night, Minaj celebrated her crowning achievement on Instagram. “Walked off stage to find out history was made yet again today,” she said.
