The official trailer for Netflix’s new documentary about the unsolved death of child beauty pageant queen JonBenet Ramsey is chilling to the bone.
Initial reviews of “Casting JonBenet” have been extremely positive. The film blurs the lines between documentary and drama while exploring crime, guilt and personal bias.
Director Kitty Green auditions local actors, unpacking how each remembers and relates to the ill-fated Ramsey family. “I’m auditioning for the role of JonBenet Ramsey,” says a child actress in the new trailer. “Do you know who killed JonBenet Ramsey?” she asks, innocently dressed as the 6-year-old beauty pageant queen.
“In cases like that, it’s always somebody you know,” one actor suggests. “There’s no way a 9-year-old could pull off a murder like this,” says another. The actors auditioning for various roles in the unsolved murder – including JonBenet’s parents, Patsy and John, and her brother Burke – not only play characters, but create intrigue and suspense by sharing their personal feelings on who the culprit is.
“Casting JonBenet” is one of several documentaries made around the 20th anniversary of the little girl’s killing. The new documentary premieres on Netflix on Friday, April 28, 2017.
