Nobody was expecting Kendrick Lamar to drop a new video this week, yet that’s precisely what the “To Pimp a Butterfly” rapper has done, surprising fans by debuting a provocative new video for “Humble”.
Directed by Dave Meyers and the Little Homies (a.k.a. Lamar and Dave Free, co-president of Top Dawg Entertainment), the “Humble” video is chock full of religious imagery, with Lamar decked out in Pope-like sacraments, preaching to his congregation.
And that’s only part of what’s going in the wild video, which also includes a scene in which Lamar’s head bursts into flames, and another in which he recreates the Last Supper.
As Kendrick raps in the track, “sit down, be humble” — which is also a great way to watch the video, but be forewarned the track features plenty of profanity, and is definitely NSFW.
Lamar has been hinting at a new album in the works, and the release of this video — following last week’s release of another new track, “The Heart Part 4” — will certainly increase fan anticipation for his follow-up to “Butterfly”.
