As Disney continues to dig into its vast catalogue of beloved animated hits to recreate as live-action movies, some potential casting news for the studio’s upcoming remake of “The Lion King” is causing the Beyhive to buzz.
According to Variety, sources claim that director Jon Favreau (who’ll be helming the live-action version) has made it clear that Beyonce is his top choice for the role.
“Insiders stress that the Grammy winner has not made a decision regarding the film yet, as the star is pregnant with twins,” reports Variety. “But since it’s a voice-acting role, sources say the studio and director will do whatever it takes to accommodate her schedule.”
If Beyonce does take on the role, she’ll be joining the already-cast Donald Glover (Simba) and James Earl Jones, who’ll once again lend his distinctive pipes to the role of Mufasa, Simba’s regal father.
Given the recent box office success of Disney’s Emma Watson-starring “Beauty and the Beast” remake, reimagining “The Lion King” is a total no-brainer; the 1994 movie remains one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, raking in a whopping $968.5 million worldwide.
