Bella Hadid stuns on Porter magazine’s summer issue. While Hadid goes without makeup and without a bra on the mag’s cover, she also gets personal about her life, career and battling Lyme disease.
Being in the spotlight and having a love life don’t always go hand-in-hand, but Hadid says she happy to turn the spotlight inward. “I’m really focusing on myself, and my work, and just being the best that I can be. I’m not really worried about what guys think about me, I’m just trying to be a woman!”
But the ultimate downside to the balancing act, she says, is being recognized wherever she goes. “It gets really overwhelming. You feel like really overexposed and you don’t want to see anybody… I just want to be in my apartment alone and kind of retreat and be centred again.”
Overcoming nerves and sensitivity is something the 20-year-old model is still conquering but she reveals she’s made a lot of progress. “I think I’ve gotten more used to being around people. I used to get nervous doing interviews. I’m a very sensitive person.”
But nudity is not something that makes her self-conscious. “My mom is very European, so our whole life we were very open about that stuff. It was just more casual.”
Hadid was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, which continues to be an uphill battle. “I couldn’t get out of bed for six days. And my brain would get all foggy, and I couldn’t see. That was the hardest time of my life.”
Hadid’s issue of Porter magazine hits newsstands April 7.
