TLC is back, and the girl group that topped the charts in the 1990s is poised for more success with the release of a brand new single, “Way Back”, featuring special guest Snoop Dogg.
The single is the first new music to emerge from TLC’s forthcoming album, for which surviving group members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas (the group’s third member, Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes, died in a 2002 car accident) ventured to Kickstarter in order to raise $150,000 for their fifth (and, they say, final) album, their first since 2002’s “3D”.
As it turned out, fans really want to hear new music from TLC, and the project wound up securing $430,255 from 4,201 backers (including a $5,000 donation from TLC fan Katy Perry). Production of the album — which was originally scheduled for release in 2015 — encountered some delays, but is now planned for a June 2017 release.
Hearkening back to such TLC favourites as “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs”, “Way Back” is apparently the single that fans have been pining for, judging by Internet reaction to the comeback single:
