Richard Simmons was reportedly hospitalized in California on Monday after battling “severe indigestion.”
The 68-year-old fitness guru’s representative, Michael Catalano, told ABC News, “Richard Simmons was hospitalized on Monday at an undisclosed location in California. After a few days of battling severe indigestion and discomfort while eating, we agreed it was best for him to seek treatment.”
Catalano noted that Simmons’ condition is nothing to be too worried about, reportedly confirming with the outlet, “He’s already feeling better and is expected to make a full recovery.” TMZ also mentioned that the actor’s digestive issue wasn’t serious enough for an ambulance at the time, reporting that his team drove him to the hospital.
This marks the second time in the last year that Simmons has left the seclusion of his home to be admitted to a hospital. Last June, the famed aerobic instructor was hospitalized after reportedly “exhibiting bizarre conduct” that was later attributed to severe dehydration from the summer heat.
While it’s been more than three years since Simmons was last seen in public, the actor’s brother, Lenny Simmons, told People in March, “My brother is fine. He’s not sick. There’s nothing medically wrong with him at all,” adding, “he just wants time for himself.”
Following reports of his hospitalization, Simmons released a statement to People in which he contends he is not “missing” and adding: “I hope to see you again soon!”
“Hello to everyone who has shown concern for me and sent their good wishes. You will never know how much it means to me. Aren’t you sick of hearing and reading about me?! LOL Well by now you know that I’m not ‘missing,’ just a little under the weather. I’m sure I will be feeling good and back home in a couple of days,” Simmons says in his statement.
“This has reminded me that when you need help you can’t be afraid to reach out and ask for it. We all think we should always be able to solve our problems all by ourselves and sometimes it’s just bigger than we are,” he adds.
