Javier Bardem covers the May issue of Esquire magazine, confessing his love for heavy metal and reveals the three guys he is crushing on.
His love of film and his wife Penelope Cruz may just be surpassed by Bardem’s love for ACDC, “I love hard rock, and I love heavy metal. It’s always been something I’ve been drinking from, the energy of metal.” He even tells the magazine that after meeting the band, “I almost cried.”
In addition to Angus Young of ACDC, Bardem reveals his other “man crushes” which include Al Pacino: “I find him so physically attractive. Oh, my God, yes,” and Brad Pitt, “I saw him once on the red carpet and I was like, wow,” and finally Johnny Depp, “What face!”
Speaking of Depp, Bardem stars alongside him in the highly anticipated “Pirates of the Caribbean’s” fifth installment “Dead Men Tell No Tales”.
The 48-year-old Oscar winner reveals he’s drawn to playing the dark characters he is best known for, “Behind every monster, there’s a person, and we have to look at what makes that person become a monster, so that we can see ourselves being vulnerable to becoming a monster.” Which is exactly what the Spanish actor did for his upcoming role as Spanish Royal Navy officer and pirate hunter Salazar, in the new “Pirates” film.
“Back in time, the pride of these people was very strong,” he explains. “And if that pride was wounded, they would kill for it.”
Bardem admits he tends to be typecast into the iconic villain: “Sometimes, when a role has some success, they want you to do it over and over.”
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” hits theatres May 26.
